This programme wants to show the obvious link between French traditional masterpieces and the enchanting sound world of the Paris based Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho.
The sound and colour experiments that we appreciate so much in Debussy and Ravel, did not only inspire other French composers like Gaubert and Dutilleux. They also gave birth to a brand new tendency in late 20th century music. This so-called 'spectralism', a compositional practice in which the quality of a single sound is explored into the smallest detail, became Saariaho’s favourite language.
