Messiaen's apocalyptic vision was created in 1941 in the Stalag VIIIa prisoner of war camp in Silesia and is still considered one of the most intriguing works of the 20th century. Impressed by the horrors of the Second World War and inspired by the 'Apocalypse' from the New Testament, Messiaen expresses his faith in a transcendent way.
