This program presents works by four key composers of the 20th century. The Suite extracted from Stravinsky's Histoire du soldat (The Soldier's Tale) is about the adventures of a soldier who sold his soul to the devil. The piece by Ives, a leading light of the American music, draws its inspiration from American folk music. The Argentine master Kagel takes us back across the Atlantic to Europe, where he ended his career. The program concludes with Schoenberg, the initiator of the musical renewal brought about by the Second Viennese School.
