With the 'Quatuor pour la fin du temps', the Brussels ensemble Het Collectief presents one of the most striking works of 20th century chamber music. Olivier Messiaen created this apocalyptic vision in 1941 in the Stalag VIIIa prisoner of war camp in Silesia.
Impressed by the horrors of the Second World War and inspired by the 'Apocalypse' from the New Testament, Messiaen expresses his faith in a transcendent way. In addition to an original palette of timbres and harmonies, the composer creates his own rhythmic language that, in combination with sometimes extremely slow tempi, manipulates the perception of time...
To prepare the ears, Het Collectief, in the company of soprano Katrien Baerts, browses through the most beautiful pages of Debussy, Ravel and Dutilleux.
